Well I actually didn’t ask for your opinion, but since you gave it to me anyway
Raf Simons is a minimalist, ok, and as the new CD of a company desperately trying to clean it’s hands from it’s past designer and the era of extravagance and opulence he represented, obviously Raf is not going to be Galliano’s cheerleader. BUT the fact that he says Dior was never ‘that’, ‘that’ being Galliano’s aesthetic, is DUMB. Dior is a house that has been around over 60 years. Like Balenciaga, Chanel, and every other successful fashion house with history it’s going to go through several periods of reinvention /rebranding because that’s what fashion is all about. To say that Dior was never about THAT is saying that Galliano was never (or should never have been) relevant which is completely false. His aesthetic may not be as relevant today as it was a few years ago but that doesn’t discount what he did for the house. Also, if the Galliano era had never have happened then perhaps Raf Simons’ minimalism might never have been in demand today in 2012. That’s why I think the quote is dumb.
